Are You Ready to A.A.C.T. Today?
Assess. Adjust. Commit. Transform.
When I started my coaching business 7 years ago, I did it because it was needed to begin accruing coaching hours for my goal to become a certified life coach – a dream of mine since the late 1990’s. My tagline was for the acronym A.A.C.T. – Assess. Adjust. Commit. Transform. It seemed to me that if I could simplify the steps for making changes in life, it would make the change process a bit less daunting.
Every year, it seems a new word becomes my focal point of the year and this year the word is SIMPLICITY. It came to me one day right after the Christmas holidays as I was writing in my journal – as if an inner voice whispered this one word gently into my ear.
For those of you who know me well, my life appears anything but simple. I am always in some state of change. My 25 year career with one organization may seem like it was a long-term constant in my life but in reality, it was a career continuously changing as I held at least 10 different roles. I basically changed up my role on average once every 2.5 years.
My personal life has also been filled with constant change. I have lived in 9 different homes since I embarked on my life as a young adult. I have had numerous health challenges to deal with between my parents, my husband(s), myself, and my children.
I also have had the amazing gift of being able to play a significant role in the growth and development of my kids, and now I get to witness our kids being a significant role in the growth and development of their children.
If I look back upon the last 61 years of my life, I have always been in a constant state of change and I realize that I have followed the simple steps to change that I have been using as my acronym for my coaching business – I assess where I am and what I want my life to look like. I then make the necessary adjustments to reach that vision of my life I am working towards. Then comes the biggie – I commit to making it happen.
Ahhh – COMMITMENT. The big C word. The life-changing C word. As William Hutchison Murray so eloquently stated:
“Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back… the moment one definitely commits oneself, then Providence moves too.”
In other words, once we truly commit to something, unbelievable things will occur that supports our goals and our dreams. It is that simple.
So, are you ready to A.A.C.T. today?
