Yesterday I was being called to create my future..the calling wasn’t subtle at all but up front and personal, in my face but in a supportive and gentle sort of way!
I started out my day yesterday still battling the flu (influenza, whatever we want to call it), and bottom line, I felt like crappola, pure and simple. Since I am such an early morning riser in my old age (54+), I grabbed my computer and my coffee while crawling onto the couch waiting for the Advil to kick in. As I was reading Michael Hyatt’s blog promoting his friend’s new book 20,000 Days and Counting by Robert D. Smith, I decided that I needed to read the book right then and there so I downloaded it on my Nook and started reading. The book is very short (100 pages give or take) in a quick, easy to read format. As I have been thinking about my future life more frequently than usual lately, finding this book came at a very opportune time.
Now fast forward to 7:00 pm last night when I am sitting in my coaching certification class via teleconference. The exercise our instructor walked us through was a visualization exercise reaching out to what our future 5 years down the road will look like. My vision is so real to me, I can see where I am living at that time, how many clients I will be working with during a day, how I will get up and go for a run before I even begin my “work” day ( I have work in quotes because it isn’t going to be work to do what I love to do). I can see what I will be looking out at from my windows each morning and I can smell the air as I sit on my deck, having my morning coffee!
This visualization stuff is pretty powerful if you ask me!
So what I have learned in the past 24 hours? I have learned that I only have a limited amount of time on this earth (well, I knew that already but it reaffirms it in my mind). I have also learned that to wake up energized and joyful every day, I need a purpose…I need a plan…
Robert D. Smith encourages us to ask ourselves 7 questions every morning so I put those questions in my iPhone calendar last night as a recurring event to remind myself to think about these questions when I wake up and am ready to live my life for another day:
- Whose life will I brighten today?
- What 3 things am I most grateful for today?
- What memories am I going to create today?
- What challenge am I going to overcome today?
- What value am I going to create today?
- How much joy can I create today?
- What life changing decision(s) am I going to make today?
I have been alive exactly 19,921 days today…
Robert D. Smith also encourages writing our biography so I took the cue from him and came up with mine in a very condensed version:
I am the Queen of Coaching, Initiator of Intuition, the Speaker of Spirit, The Formulator of Feel Good, The Fortifier of Flourish and the Ambassador of “AHA”! Yep, I can live with that!
I encourage you to go out and read his book, it is well worth an hour of your time and maybe…just maybe, you will want to start living the rest of your days with a grin on your face, a bounce in your step and happiness in the hearts of all you touch!
What is your biography?
What is the vision of what you will be doing January 4, 2018?
